Thyroid News Update
Here’s your weekly news update from Thyroid Mom. These are articles or abstracts that either appeared in the news this week or things that I found this week that I wanted to share with you. Happy Reading!
CONGENITAL HYPOTHYROIDISM & THYROID DISORDERS IN CHILDREN
If you have high cholesterol, definitely read this article:
Key quote from this article: “Between 1.4% and 13% of patients with high cholesterol also have hypothyroidism, prompting health organizations, including the National Cholesterol Education Program, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the American Thyroid Association, to recently issue recommendations encouraging clinicians to check for both conditions concurrently.”

I’m glad to see that hypothyroidism during pregnancy is being researched. There is also an article on Medscape that explains this abstract in a bit more detail (entitled “Optimal Levothyroxine Doses for Hypothyroidism in Pregnancy”), but you need an account with Medscape to access it. You can sign up for a free Medscape account at www.medscape.com. There are several articles about thyroid disorders on Medscape.
