Growth Awareness Week: September 2015
Is Your Child Growing Normally? That's the question The MAGIC Foundation is asking. Today, they launched Growth Awareness Week aka Growth Spurt in an effort to raise awareness of growth related disorders affecting children around the world. This year, they expect to reach over 70 different countries and over 1 million parents. They email, text message, post to Facebook, Tweet, share videos, spread handouts, and post fliers, all to tell people... "Growth is a major factor in a child's overall health". WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT GROWTH AWARENESS: Measuring & plotting a child on a growth chart is one of the least expensive, most non-invasive forms of preventative medical care available. Normal children grow 2 to 2 1/2 inches per year, … [Read more...]
Are You An Empath & What Impact Does It Have On Your Health?
Are you one of those people who often finds themselves comforting, listening to and advising friends and family? You know, the one who everyone seems to call when they need a shoulder to cry on? How do those interactions leave you feeling? For some, you may leave the interaction simply feeling grateful to have helped and grateful to not be in the same situation. For others, particularly, empaths, you may leave those interactions feeling completely drained. Recently, I had lunch with my friend and mentor, Sunny Schlenger. Sunny, who is an author and flow coach, and I discussed how we are both empaths and the effect it has on us and on our mental and physical health. Most people are socially and emotionally aware enough to pick up on … [Read more...]

Giving Infants Medication
You want me to give a PILL to my NEWBORN?! I remember asking my son's pediatric endocrinologist that question. As if it's not enough to have to deal with giving birth, having your newborn diagnosed with Congenital Hypothyroidism, endure repeated blood draws in those first few days, and then you are told you must get your infant to swallow a medication that (at least in the US) only comes in pill form. Our endocrinologist said to crush the medicine and give it to our son through a syringe. It was as if this was no big deal. For me, it was a big deal. The conversation had occurred over the phone. We hadn't even seen our pediatric endocrinologist in person yet. Where would we get the syringe? Oh, the pharmacy has them? Are you sure? … [Read more...]
