ThyroidChange: What It Means To Me by Thyroid Mom

December 10, 2014 by Blythe 4 Comments

thyroid change

This post originally appeared on the ThyroidChange website: The name, ThyroidChange, resonates with me. I think about my own journey with thyroid disorders, and my family’s journey with thyroid disorders. You see, I was diagnosed in my twenties with hypothyroidism. I had been trying (unsuccessfully) to conceive. Eventually, I was tested for hypothyroidism. Once my thyroid levels were normal, I was able to conceive my first child. Shortly before my oldest son was born, my husband was diagnosed with Graves’ disease (autoimmune hyperthyroidism). Two weeks after my oldest son was born, he was diagnosed with congenital hypothyroidism. My youngest son was also diagnosed with congenital hypothyroidism. A few years ago, I was told that I had … [Read more...]

Vitamin B2 and Thyroid Function

November 17, 2014 by Blythe 1 Comment

B2 and thyroid function

If you have been reading about thyroid related health issues, you have probably come across articles talking about B12 deficiencies.  What I'm wondering, though, is whether you know about Vitamin B2?  Riboflavin (B2) can have many benefits, and it's worth finding out if it can help you. Why should thyroid sufferers care about B2? B2 is required for thyroid enzyme regulation and the production of corticosteriods.  Without B2, production of T4 is suppressed and adrenal glands fail to secrete their hormones.  A B2 deficiency can contribute to an under active thyroid and ultimately lead to weight gain and other health issues. If you search for symptoms of B2 deficiency, among the symptoms on the list is diminished thyroid function.  B2 is all … [Read more...]

Thyroid Disorders Don’t Have to be Scary!

October 31, 2014 by Blythe Leave a Comment

thyroid disorders

It's Halloween!  There are many scary things out there tonight.  Don't let a thyroid disorder diagnosis be one of them.  No matter what you or your children are going through, you don't have to be scared!  Thyroid disorders don't have to be scary.  If you or your child have just been diagnosed with a thyroid disorder, here are some things you should do right now: 1) Do your research.  Take the time to learn what you can about Congenital Hypothyroidism or your specific thyroid disorder.  There are many great books out there, including Mary Shomon's Living Well with Hypothyroidism, Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms When My Lab Tests Are Normal? by Dr. Datis Kharrazian, and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis Root Cause by Dr. Izabella Wentz.  There … [Read more...]

Fill ‘er up! Fellow Thyroid Warrior, Is Your Tank Empty?

October 30, 2014 by Blythe 1 Comment

thyroid health

Today, I coasted into the gas station to fill up my car.  No kidding, I actually coasted in.  My tank was that empty.  I could hear my Dad's voice reminding me that I shouldn't ever let my tank get lower than a quarter of a tank.  He'll cringe when he reads this, but I often find myself coasting into gas stations on fumes.  As I sat there waiting for the ENTIRE gas tank to fill up, I wondered in what other areas did I find myself running on empty?  In what other ways am I totally depleted and when was the last time I took time to fill myself up? If you search top tips for thyroid health, among them you will often find talk of supplements, avoid goiterogenic foods, avoiding soy and gluten.  You will hopefully also find things that discuss … [Read more...]

Your Journey with Thyroid Disease

October 17, 2014 by Blythe Leave a Comment

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim Because it was grassy and wanted wear, Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. By … [Read more...]
