Here’s your weekly thyroid news from Thyroid Mom. These are articles, abstracts or blog posts that either appeared in the news this week or things that I found this week that I wanted to share with you. Happy Reading!

General Thyroid

The Thyroid Sessions by Sean Croxton. This is a free online event going on now through May 17th. All you have to do is provide your email address and you can listen to the sessions. Topics include: info on healing your gut, alternative treatments for thyroid disorders, why your blood sugar is out of whack, depression and anxiety and how it relates to your thyroid, etc. I encourage you to register and listen to these free sessions.

General Guide for Parents of Children with Congenital Hypothyroidism (Note: This was published in 2006, so it’s a bit dated. Also, it calls for recording TSH and T4 which puzzles me since T4 can be so unreliable.)  We need better resources for parents!

High Prevalence of Associated Birth Defects in Congenital Hypothyroidism (Takeaway here: study showed a high prevalence of congenital heart disease in congenital hypothyroidism, indicating the need of routine echocardiography in all patients with congenital hypothyroidism.)

One final note: I wouldn’t be doing my job as a Mom if I didn’t ask you guys for a favor.  My oldest son, William, has been selected as a finalist in the Jefferson Awards for Public Service as part of their Lead360 Challenge.  This Award recognizes outstanding youth service projects.  William has done a food drive for the last 2 years.  This year, he raised nearly $4,000 and about as much food (over 3,000 lbs).  He is the youngest finalist selected.  The TOP 5 will get to go to Washington, DC to receive their award.  The TOP 5 will be chosen during the social media voting contest going on now through May 21st.  Please consider voting for him once daily by clicking HERE.
